OMG IT'S OGGY1

Well, the St. Agatha Holiday Bazaar is over and Momma Cat is taking a break from making things to sell.  She does not, however, stop working completely, at any time!

So, immediately after the bazaar, she started making this cute little guy that was in a book that Daddy Cat bought her for Christmas last year.

He likes sitting on the back of the chair (better view, he says)

His name is Oggy.  Momma Cat thinks he may have some other sea friends out there that we'll be seeing soon. Oggy has mentioned something about a lobster buddy......

The funny thing too is that Momma has never seen Oggy even close to any kind of water, salt or otherwise!  Kinda makes you think, doesn't it?

SPRING HAS JOINED THE CAT FAMILY

Well, I promised you a multi-colored cat, and here she is!  Her name is Spring.

Spring

She is on her way to Yarntastic Fiber Arts with her siblings, where they will meet up with their bear friends.

They will all be for sale there.  So stop in and take a look when you're in the neighborhood.

BLUE BABY BROTHER CAT

Momma Cat has been very, very busy working these days, so she has not been as creative as when she has lots of time off!

But, she has been working hard on a new baby brother for Pink Kitty.  It took twice as long as usual because Momma Cat kept falling asleep while she was crocheting, then she'd have to rip everything out and start over again!  That slowed things down quite a bit!!

The night before last, about 1 o'clock in the morning, she finished Blue Baby Brother Cat!  Again, she used Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn, in Blue Ice.

The Cat Siblings

Blue Baby is so sweet, but is in need of a good home.  He and his siblings are headed to Yarntastic Fiber Arts, to join their teddy bear friends.

Don't worry though, Momma Cat is already working on another kitty to join them.  This kitty is multi-colored!  Here's a preview.

I know it doesn't look like much now.  This is just the beginning of the top of it's little head.  I think it's gonna be real cute.  Let me know what you think.

BEARY PRODUCTIVE!

I REALLY HATE BEING SICK!!!!!  Not only do I feel BAD, but I have no energy at all!  It really makes me ANGRY!!!!  So, mostly I refuse to get sick at all, ever!  But this week something snuck up behind me and gave me a stinkin' cold!

Okay, so even though I've been sick all week, I still managed to produce three bears!  No, not THOSE three bears!  Angel, Rosie, and Lottie.  Those three bears!

Angel, the ivory one, is going to live in Idaho with my Aunt Dorothy.  Rosie, the pink one, and Lottie, the brown one are available for adoption.  They will stay at my house with me until suitable homes are found for them.

Here they are!

OMG, the three of them together remind me of Neopolitan Ice Cream!!!

Angel, Rosie, and Lottie
So far, I have made six bears.  I crochet them out of baby chenille yarn.  I use safety eyes and noses, so that they're safe for small children. I know I'll make a few more before I move on to something new.

It's because I love teddys so much!

DAINTY CINDERELLA SLIPPERS

Among the treasures we have from Grandma Cat were molds and a pattern for these adorable mini high-heels. They would make great wedding or party favors, a beautiful accent on top of a special gift, or just an ornament on a classy lady's Christmas tree.

I made the lacey-looking ones and the sandals from the pattern, while the solid ones were improvised to look more like one that Grandma Cat made. I made them in silver and gold crochet thread for the Etsy shop to give people a color choice and just because it's fun to see what they look like in different colors!

Crochet thread comes in so many fun colors, you will probably be seeing more than just silver and gold soon! Momma Cat and I have also talked about designing even more fun shoe styles. We promise to keep you posted!

NEW BUNNIES AND PIXIE DUST NECKLACES ON ETSY!

I loved making the purple chenille bunny so much I made two more! The blue one sold almost immediately to a friend at church, and the pink one is available on Etsy!

I plan to make another blue bunny and add even more color options soon, but in the meantime, check out our Pixie Dust Necklaces! We have a variety or designs and colors, or request a custom order!

The Etsy shop is getting a new look soon, so stay tuned!

MOMMA CAT AND BABY CAT'S FAIR ENTRIES

I've been so busy working and trying to make things for Baby Cat's wedding, that I almost didn't get my fair entries ready in time.  To be truthful, I had forgotten about it completely until Baby Cat reminded me, a few days ago, that we had to turn in our entries on Friday!

So, I spent the last couple of days before the fair finishing up my dress, which originally was meant for Baby Cat's wedding.  But, it's just a few pounds tooooooooo tight, so I decided that it was going to a fair entry this year.

First Premium and Best of Show Ribbons!
It looks better this way
I made it out of bright red satin embroidered with a rose pattern, which I got at (you guessed it) JoAnn's a few months ago.  It also has a lovely rhinestone rose pin at the front waistline, which I purchase at the Mill End Store.  It was supposed to be a belt buckle, but I couldn't find one as lovely as this, and it just went with the fabric so well!

Too bad it didn't fit, but it gives me incentive to lose about 10 more pounds!  Naturally I forgot to take a picture before I took it to the fair, so these are pictures of it afterward.

I entered Baby Cat's wedding stole in the fair too.  It turned out so well, and it's probably the hardest thing I've ever attempted to crochet, so I just had to do it.  Here you see it displayed in a beautiful storybook box just as it was at the fair.  Baby Cat is going to look so beautiful in it! I'm going to give it to her at her Bridal Shower.

Baby Cat's Wedding Stole got a First Premium ribbon!

Rapunzel won't let down her long hair, but she got a First Premium ribbon!
Now we have Rapunzel!  Rapunzel is my favorite houseplant.  I started her from cuttings off of another houseplant several years ago, and she just took off!  At first, she just got fuller and fuller.  Then she started growing really long!  Hence the name, Rapunzel! Right now she's probably over six feet long if you could get her to straighten out her vines.  She's a very healthy and beautiful plant, and that's why I love her so! I wanted to take her to the fair so other people could see her too.  I think she deserves to be transplanted to a bigger pot soon so she can continue to thrive!

I'm rushing to finish my thesis project by next week so this post will be quick. I entered my wedding gloves and cake topper and they both won 1st premium ribbons! I am very happy! ( I joked that the blue ribbons match the ribbon on the cake topper, so any other color just wouldn't do.)

Click these links to see the original posts of the cake topper and gloves. Wish me luck at school!

A BEAUTIFUL GIFT FROM FUTUREMOM CAT

Baby Cat's Futuremom (also known as FiancéCat's mom and Maureen Cat) has been working on a very special wedding gift for Baby Cat!

Baby Cat received this gorgeous hand-crocheted keepsake purse from Futuremom Cat this past weekend! The cream-colored yarn that Futuremom used matches the beautiful stole that Momma Cat made for Baby Cat, so they will go perfectly together! A brooch fit for a princess, and stunning beaded details in Baby Cat and Fiancé Cat's wedding colors (blue and silver, if we haven't already mentioned it) make this wonderful gift even more special.

Baby Cat found another lovely surprise inside the purse, this sweet handkerchief with delicate blue lace around the edges, the perfect "something blue."

Futuremom Cat even took great care in wrapping the gift. Baby Cat loves the sparkly blue fabric she used, and the pretty white and silver box!

Thank you for the amazing gift, Futuremom!

Love,

Baby Cat

WEDDING STOLE FOR BABY CAT

When Baby Cat decided which wedding dress she was going to make, I told her that I'd crochet her a shawl/stole to go with it, because we don't want the bride to have cold shoulders, do we?

Anyway, I found this beautiful pattern on ravelry.com and decided to make it.  Baby Cat chose Universal's Bamboo Pop yarn, which we bought at Yarntastic Fiber Arts, which is located at 6802 SE Milwaukie Avenue, in Portland, Oregon.  I had a lot of difficulty with the pattern at first. I found it very hard to understand.  At one point I almost decided to find another pattern.  But then I realized that I couldn't let it defeat me. It took me a while, but  I finally figured it out!

This is Baby Cat's stole laying over the back of a chair.

Baby Cat's wedding stole
For sure it's going to look a lot better on Baby Cat!  I can't wait to see her wear it with her wedding gown.

A LEGEND OF ZELDA BLANKET FOR BABY BROTHER CAT!

At last! Baby Brother Cat's long awaited (as in almost a month overdue) Christmas present! Baby Cat just put the finishing touches on this granny square blanket that she has been working on for him.

The squares form the pixels of an 8-bit image of Link, the main character from Legend of Zelda. This little guy doesn't look like he has very many pixels, but Baby Cat learned otherwise when she crocheted 288 squares to make the blanket! It was fun to make, though. Best of all, it didn't even require a pattern, just a quick refresher on how to make a granny square, and this picture to go off of:

Now, Link just has to make the long journey to Eugene via the postal service. Merry Christmas, Baby Brother! Stay warm and dream of defeating Ganon!

Love,

Big Sister Cat

Remember Fiancé Cat's Mario Blanket?
These blankets are so fun and cute that it's easy to forget how much time they take.
Luckily, I've only made them for people I like an awful lot!

HEIRLOOM WEDDING CAKE TOPPER

We inherited many beautiful and special crochet patterns from Grandma Cat. When Baby Cat saw this one, she just couldn't resist the adorbs and knew she had to make one for her wedding cake!

Recognize these two cuties?
It looks like someone turned Baby Cat and Fiancé Cat into crochet dolls again!
Baby Cat crocheted the whole thing using Aunt Lydia's crochet thread, then blocked each piece and used a fabric stiffener to make them hold their shape. Baby and Fiancé Cat's wedding colors are represented in the royal blue satin ribbon and delicate silver beads, as well as the tiny bouquet. Momma Cat and Baby Cat combed the entire floral department at the JoAnn's Superstore in search of miniature blue and white flowers, only to find this perfect ready-made bouquet in the scrapbooking section!

This is the original picture from the book, Baby Cat altered it just a bit to fit her and Fiancé Cat's wedding style

Mini Fiancé Cat has curly blond doll hair. Baby Cat tried brown curly doll hair on her own miniature but it proved too poofy and unruly when she tried to style it (just like Baby Cat's Hair can sometimes be in real life!) so yarn hair seemed like a better option. Mini Baby Cat's hairstyle is very similar to the one she plans to have at the wedding

The whole thing is 6'' in diameter and 7'' tall and cuter than stuffing!

This Jack Skellington doll found a good home at the St. Agatha Holiday Bazaar over the weekend, but that doesn't mean he is gone for good...

MEET COSETTE

This little cutie just showed up and Baby Cat and Fiancé Cat's house last night! She just moved to Portland for school and was looking for a place to live. Right now she is sleeping on Baby Cat's sewing table, but she might be looking for a new home at the St. Agatha Christmas Bazaar in a month or so.

If you would like to make Cosette, her original pattern is available in our Etsy shop for $5, or by visiting Baby Cat's Ravelry profile. She is so much fun to have around!

Hiapo, my first Hawaiian Doll!

I'd like to introduce you to my first Hawaiian doll.  Her name is Hiapo (hee-ah-poe), which means first-born in Hawaiian.
Hiapo

As you can see, she has a genuine grass skirt, a lei, pearl earrings, and a tropical flower in her hair.  You can't see it in this photo very well, but she is wearing a bikini under her skirt and lei.

I decided to make her because my Sister Cat and Brother-in-law Cat just recently moved to Hawaii, and I kept thinking, hey, I should make a Hawaiian doll.  My Sister Cat helped me choose just the right name, since I know no Hawaiian at all!

Here's Hiapo standing in front of a photograph taken by Sister Cat of a beautiful beach in Hawaii.  Hiapo seems to be ready to walk right out onto the sand!

The weekend before last Baby Cat and I went to a bridal shower for a young woman named Morgan, that Baby Cat has known since kindergarten!  We both love this woman and wanted to make her a unique gift for her shower.  So we co-created this bride doll for her.

Morgan's bride doll

Baby Cat made the earrings, necklace, and the bridal veil.  Aren't they sweet?

Earrings made by Baby Cat

Matching necklace made by Baby Cat
Veil made by Baby Cat

Momma Cat made the doll, dress, and bouquet.  Oh yes, also the garter and the "diamond" ring (not pictured).

The bride to be recently sent us a thank you note proclaiming her love for us and for her special doll.  We are both so gratified that we could make our friend so happy! We can't wait to see the wedding!

A Pintsize Doll for Baby Brother Cat!

Baby Brother Cat is going to comic-con with some friends this weekend! He has decided to go dressed as Marten, the main character of our favorite webcomic, Questionable Content. And where would Marten be without his adorable (yet pervy) little robot friend, Pintsize? Probably in a lot less trouble, actually, but also having less fun! So I crocheted this pint-size Pintsize doll for Baby Brother Cat to take with him. The pattern is my own design, using pictures for reference. What do you think? Is it a good likeness?

Happy New Year! Check out these cute miniature houses!

Happy New Year! Here is my Christmas project, finally completed. I got the pattern for this crochet gingerbread house a couple of years ago from my grandma. I did all of the crocheting a long time ago but didn't completely finish putting it together. This year, I decided to finally finish it and turn it into a cute centerpiece instead of a bunch of little crocheted pieces taking up space in Momma Cat's house.

Front View
The crocheted walls and roof of the house have a backing of plastic canvas to stiffen them. Even so, the house was pretty wobbly once I sewed it all together. I consulted my favorite engineer, who suggested making a structural frame out of wire hangers to strengthen the walls against wobbling. I bent a few wire hangers and sewed them along the edges and corners of the inside of the house, and it worked very well!

Side View
The base is a foam disk that I crocheted around with white sparkly yarn. Then I sewed the house and all of the little candy decorations to the base. The little peppermints are my favorite, but the gumdrops, lollipops, and gingerbread men were all fun too!

Back View
The smoke billowing from the chimney is just some polyester stuffing I arranged to give it  a cozy feel, along with the warm glow from the yellow crocheted windows.

Side View
And now, for my next house project...

I bought this beautiful dollhouse kit from my friend Jennifer of plushpussycat.com. If you haven't seen Jennifer's blog she makes amazing dollhouses, miniatures, and adorable needle-felted animals! She even gave me a bag full of wonderful miniature treasures to put in my house when it is done.

I have heard that when making a dollhouse it is best to do the painting and wallpaper before you put the house together. For me, the wall finishes are among the hardest decisions to make because they have such a huge impact on the overall look of the house, even after the rest of the design work is done. For this reason I might have to do a lot of thinking and looking at different color combinations before this house will be finished. Right now, I am thinking of trying to make the exterior look like stone. I am going to research this and see if it looks like something I can do.

I can't wait to see what my finished house will look like and who will live in it. I guess I better get to work!

Lovely Lace, a Tough Decision, and Back-to School

I just finished another project from my "Crochet So Fine" book. This one is a delicate lace tank top and I love the way it came out. I made it to sell at the holiday bazaar that Momma Cat and I do every year but when I put it on to model it for the blog it ended up fitting me so well that I am tempted to keep it. (Momma Cat thinks I should). My problem is that I have a very bad habit of keeping everything that I like, which not only leaves me without much to sell, but I also find that if I only sell the things I don't like, no one else likes or wants to buy them either!

Front View of the Lace Top

Back View
So now I am back in my apartment at school getting ready for the first week of classes and the top is awaiting its fate in my room back at Momma Cat's House. It's a tough decision. On one hand, it would be nice to earn some money for my work since I don't have much right now. On the other hand, I'm not sure I would find anything that I liked better for the same amount of money that I would get from selling it. Maybe I should just make another in a different color and sell that one? I have thought that if I stop making clothes in my size I won't be tempted to keep them, but that wouldn't really help any of the other girls who are the same size as I am! I don't know, what do my commenters think?
