MAKING CATS WITH CAT YARN!

Yes, Cat Yarn!  I'm not making it up!  But, it's not yarn made from cat hair, it's yarn died to look like cat fur!  It's made by Ancient Arts Yarns.  It's 100% Superwash Merino Wool.  This particular yarn is the Calico Cat DK yarn, from the Meow Collection.  So cute!

I got my yarn at Yarntastic Fiber Arts, in Portland. Yarntastic is a little shop over in the Sellwood-Moreland business district.  It's just a couple of doors south of the Moreland Theatre on SE Milwaukie Avenue.

Anyway, this cat yarn is so cute, I decided to make some crocheted cats out of it! There's quite a bit of yardage in one skein (225 yards), so I was able to make both of these cats, and I still have yarn left over!

Momma Cat's cats made out of Cat Yarn! Whoa!!!!

These cats will be on display at Yarntastic along with the beautiful Cat Yarn.  So stop by and see them, the Cat Yarn, and all the other beautiful yarn that is for sale there.

While you're there, say hi to Leslie and Dave (the owners), and tell them that Momma Cat sent you!

BLUE BABY BROTHER CAT

Momma Cat has been very, very busy working these days, so she has not been as creative as when she has lots of time off!

But, she has been working hard on a new baby brother for Pink Kitty.  It took twice as long as usual because Momma Cat kept falling asleep while she was crocheting, then she'd have to rip everything out and start over again!  That slowed things down quite a bit!!

The night before last, about 1 o'clock in the morning, she finished Blue Baby Brother Cat!  Again, she used Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn, in Blue Ice.

The Cat Siblings

Blue Baby is so sweet, but is in need of a good home.  He and his siblings are headed to Yarntastic Fiber Arts, to join their teddy bear friends.

Don't worry though, Momma Cat is already working on another kitty to join them.  This kitty is multi-colored!  Here's a preview.

I know it doesn't look like much now.  This is just the beginning of the top of it's little head.  I think it's gonna be real cute.  Let me know what you think.

WEDDING STOLE FOR BABY CAT

When Baby Cat decided which wedding dress she was going to make, I told her that I'd crochet her a shawl/stole to go with it, because we don't want the bride to have cold shoulders, do we?

Anyway, I found this beautiful pattern on ravelry.com and decided to make it.  Baby Cat chose Universal's Bamboo Pop yarn, which we bought at Yarntastic Fiber Arts, which is located at 6802 SE Milwaukie Avenue, in Portland, Oregon.  I had a lot of difficulty with the pattern at first. I found it very hard to understand.  At one point I almost decided to find another pattern.  But then I realized that I couldn't let it defeat me. It took me a while, but  I finally figured it out!

This is Baby Cat's stole laying over the back of a chair.

For sure it's going to look a lot better on Baby Cat!  I can't wait to see her wear it with her wedding gown.

MY AVALON

A while back I decided that I needed to make myself a big cat.  I made all those little Amineko cats, and I loved them.  But I really wanted to make a large cat.  So I went to Yarntastic Fiber Arts  (my favorite yarn store) and a I found this beautiful baby alpaca chunky yarn, made by Cascade Yarns.  I used the large Amineko crocheted cat pattern from the book, My name is Amineko.  I decided that my cat needed to have a sweater too, so she would never be cold!  It is winter, you know?

Here's my kitty sitting in our rocking chair.

Now, baby alpaca yarn isn't cheap, and if I'd have known how many skeins it would take to make this little lovely, I might've chosen another less expensive yarn.  But, I didn't, so all told, Miss Avalon cost me about $120 to make.  But, she was worth it.  She is so soft and wonderful, and completely huggable, and she's mine, all mine!

I named my kitty Avalon after a character Cyndi Lauper played on the TV show, Bones.  I really like Cyndi Lauper!

I hope you like my Avalon.  She's the most well-behaved cat ever!

COLORFUL "CANDY" BABY DOLL

This baby doll pattern is one that I got from Ravelry.com.  The pattern name is "Sleeping buddies, lavendar stuffed doll".  I made a few changes to the doll because I wasn't satisfied with how she looked when I was done.

I added hands and feet, and a little bit of hair and blush.  I also had to modify the hood to fit my doll.  I changed  the mouth, and I added safety eyes. Then I stuffed her with regular polyester stuffing, no lavender.

So this is my little doll,

Candy doll

I've named her "Candy".  I hope you like her.  She's made out of Ultra Pima Cotton, and Bamboo Pop yarn, all purchased from Yarntastic Fiber Arts in Sellwood, Portland, Oregon.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my little Candy doll.

CHARLES AND THOMAS ARRIVE FOR A VISIT!

Who are Charles and Thomas, you ask?  Well, it just so happens that they are the brothers of the famous Cora Cat, who now resides at Yarntastic Fiber Arts with her mom Leslie.

Thomas is a nice turquoise cat with an easygoing manner.  Charles, the lime green cat, and Thomas' older brother (by 2 seconds), is very charming, and gets along exceedingly well with Thomas and Cora.

Charles and Thomas visit the Cat family

None of us are sure how many more siblings these crazy cats have, because we can't get them to talk to us.  But, I wouldn't be surprised if more of them showed up somewhere down the line!

CORA CAT the SUNFLOWER SUNBATHER

Cora Cat is new to our household this week.  We tried to keep her indoor, but like most cats, she had a hankering to be outside.  So, as soon as she was able to sneak past us and get out the door, again, like most cats, she headed directly for the garden!

But, instead of looking for a place to relieve herself, she wanted to sunbathe!  You know how cats love to find the sunniest spot they can, and then just lay down and cook until they can't take it anymore?  Well, this is where I found Cora.

Cora In the Garden

I'm not really sure how she got up there, but she's perched atop a giant sunflower leaf!  You can see she's really enjoying herself and soaking up all the heat she can.  Good thing it's only 70 degrees here right now or we'd really have a cooked kitty!

Sadly, I don't think Cora will be with us for very long.  But she'll be very happy, I think.  She's going to go live at Yarntastic Fiber Arts.  I've been telling Lesley, the owner, that she needs a shop cat.  Well, now she'll have one and we'll get to see Cora every time we visit!

MONKEY MIKE COMES ALIVE!!!!

MONKEY MIKE is a product of Little Brother Cat's imagination, and came into being about 13 years ago when he was in first grade.  Little Brother made up this character and then wrote comics and drew cartoons to illustrate them.

Now, Monkey Mike was a very special monkey, but we haven't seen or heard from him for a very long time, until yesterday!

My interpretation of Monkey Mike

Truth be told, this really isn't the original Monkey Mike.  This monkey was made by Momma Cat using a pattern she got off of another blog, amigurumitogo.com.  It was the Extra Large Monkey Pattern, whose name is Darcy.

I decided to make Mike with only one strand of yarn, and I also decided to make him solid blue except for his muzzle and the little circles around his eyes.  I also gave Mike a banana, and a bandanna.

Now Mike is ready to play!

Mike will be on display for the foreseeable future at Yarntastic Fiber Arts in Portland, Oregon.  Stop by and see the new shop and give Mike a little tickle.  He loves to be tickled.
