SASSAFRASSITY

There's a relatively new store in my neighborhood called Sassafrassity.  That's right!  It's very cute and has an assortment of items which are either vintage, re-purposed, or handmade.  I urge you to go there and check it out, if you haven't already.  The address is 8326 SE 17rh Avenue, in Portland, Oregon.  You'll be glad you did!

Here's a really cute vintage poster that I bought there this summer.

Isn't it great?  I'm going to hang it in my sewing room, but I think I'd like to frame it first even though it came encased in plastic.  There are other WWII posters there as well, but this one spoke to me.

I also picked up these wonderful ceramic garden markers.  They're sturdy, waterproof, and they'll never fade!  Don't you just love them?

Sassafrassity also has a nice variety of houseplants, if you're looking for a new plant baby!

You should make your way there soon, then go back in a couple of weeks and see all the new things they have to offer!  You're gonna love it!!!

Mini Sewing Machine

At the beginning of spring break, Boyfriend Cat and I spent a weekend in Coos Bay. On the way back, he let me spend as much time as I wanted in a super-cool miniatures shop in Lincoln City, called Rocking Horse! I was good and only bought one thing, this cute old-fashioned sewing machine kit.

This is what the picture on the box looked like.

I hand painted all of the silver parts with a paint pen. The drawer pulls are so small they were hard to hang on to when I glued them in.

There was some difficulty with the wood stain, which was a bit clumpy when I first mixed it, but I think it came out looking alright.

I can just picture a tiny person sitting here, making her own tiny dresses!

I still haven't put together my dollhouse. Unfortunately, that would require being in the same city with it for any length of time. Hopefully that means it will happen this summer. Of course, I knew that any house of mine has to include a sewing machine! Now it just needs to wait for the house to be built.

Flower Barrettes for Spring

Last week, Hirons was out of headbands! For those of you who don't know, Hirons is a local Eugene pharmacy that sells anything you could possibly want. The first time I ever went there, it was to get cold medicine and I left with a random assortment of makeup and Hello Kitty stuff, but no medicine! Now it's where I get my headbands, but this time they didn't have any, so I thought I would try barrettes instead. I made one with pink flowers, one with blue flowers, and one with a red butterfly (also from Hirons).

As usual, these will all be appearing on Etsy one by one over the next few days. I will also have more things made from Hirons treasures to show you soon.

Hirons is a magical place!

Start off your spring with a bit of sparkle!

Coming soon to a Laughing Cat Etsy shop near you...

New vintage lace headbands with acrylic flowers just in time for spring!

Spring is almost upon us. With flowers popping up everywhere on campus and a few rare but wonderful days of sun in Eugene, it's all this little cat can think about! That's why, in the midst of studying for finals, I had to whip up a few spring inspired headbands. They are similar to the ones I did for Valentine's day, with vintage lace and flexible headbands for those of you who are tired of having your poor little skull squeezed to death by evil, rigid headbands (I know I am). What gives these a springtime twist is the translucent pink and blue acrylic flowers from Joann's. The colors and the way they catch the sun just says "spring" to me! Perfect for an Easter picnic or spring vacation, these headbands will give any outfit springtime sparkle!

Dreaming of flowers and sunshine,
