CROSSROADS DOLL AND TEDDY BEAR SHOW

The Crossroads Doll And Teddy Bear Show was today in Clackamas, Oregon, at the Monarch Hotel. The hotel is in a nice spot because it's not in an overly crowded area.  There is easy access, and plenty of parking.  

 Momma Cat got up early and went to the show at 8:30am!  This is unusual, because Momma Cat would normally try to still be sleeping at that time on a Saturday morning!!!
But, Momma Cat has been getting up early to go to work several days this week, so her internal clock wakes her up at ungodly times in the a.m., so today she took advantage of it!  She got up, bathed, ate breakfast, then went off to the doll show!

The advantage of getting to the show at 8:30am is that there are hardly any other people there at that time!  The traffic was very light too, so travel time was minimal!  It costs a couple of extra dollars to get in at 8:30, but Crossroads always offer a $1.00 off coupon with their announcements, so it works out pretty well.  Momma Cat felt that it was worth a little extra money to have the run of the place and not have to worry about having her toes trod upon!  She also got a free copy of a new doll magazine because she got there early!

Momma Cat looked all around the doll show several times, and saw a lot of really cute things.  But, she only came away with one prize this time.

Ann Estelle, by the Robert Tonner Doll Company

One of the vendors at the show had three little Ann Estelle dolls.  They were all in great condition, but none of them had their original tags or boxes.  Momma Cat was able to buy this little cutie for only $50, which is a real bargain! Her little jacket and hat are made out of felt, and she has an adorable pleated skirt.  Not to mention her gloves, and some little yellow shoes!

Momma Cat went to the doll show looking for a Robert Tonner "Patsy" doll, but she didn't see even one there!  Oh well, there's always eBay, and there's always another doll show!!

FASHION DOLLS, J-DOLLS, AND THE FAT BABY CHALLENGE!

Last week, Baby Cat, Plush Pussycat, and I went to the Crossroads Doll and Teddy Bear show at the National Guard Armory in Portland.

As usual, there were many things that we liked and were tempted by.  So many that it took several hours for us to look at everything, make our choices, and finally make our way out the door.  In fact, we went out the back way so we wouldn't be tempted to buy anything more on our way out!

Baby Cat was first to make a purchase.  She found a cute little J-Doll that she just had to have.  Here are two pictures of it:

I bought this J-Doll last time I went to the doll show, but mine didn't have any shoes.  I tried to find some cute ones for her this time, but all I found were these boots, which are plastic and not that nice.  But, at least she has some shoes for now, until I find something I like better.

Plush Pussycat found a little doll too, but I don't have a picture of her.  Hopefully she will put one on her blog, so you can all see it.  Both she and Baby Cat found some miniature rugs they liked for their doll houses.  Plush Pussycat found some other miniature food items that she liked, so she bought those too.

I also found two really pretty fashion dolls at this doll show.  The first was this one.

Tiny Kitty Collier

 She's a tiny Kitty Collier.  I thought she was just gorgeous and so very classy looking. This close-up doesn't really do her justice.  I fell in love with her.  She reminds me a little bit of a young Grace Kelly.  Look how classy her dress and shoes are!

Here's my other doll, Gene.  When I first saw Gene, she was naked, and I thought about buying her and making her some clothes.  But, I looked around for a while and another vendor had several outfits that were made to fit this doll.  So, I bought the doll.........

 then I bought her this lovely outfit.

The doll is a "Gene" doll, and she was made to represent the big film stars of the 30's and 40's.
Look at how pretty the back of her hair is!

I think Gene is very lovely and her clothes are so nicely made.  I'm glad I bought her.

NOW FOR THE FAT BABY CHALLENGE!

Baby Cat and I saw two cute, fat, baby dolls when I was buying the outfit for Gene.  The dolls were adorable and very inexpensive, so we decided to buy them. Then we came up with what we call  "The FAT BABY CHALLENGE"! We each have to design and make an outfit for our respective dolls and have them ready to sell at the St. Agatha Holiday Bazaar in early November.  We can sew, knit, or crochet, or any combination of the three, an outfit, with or without accessories, for our dolls.  But, we can't tell or show each other what we're making.  Also, we have to sell them at the Bazaar when we're done! No keeping, no matter how cute they turn out!

Here are the two babies as they were when we bought them.  We'll show you how they look when we're done.

I think Baby Cat's doll looks sad, don't you?  Poor baby!  But, she is awful cute. I'm sure someone nice will adopt her in November.

Momma Cat's doll looks anxious, like she can't wait to be fed or picked up.  Who will be the lucky one to take her home?

BIG SISTER CAT'S BIRTHDAY PRESENT

As promised, in my last post featuring the Crossroads Doll and Teddy Bear Show, this is the amazing present that I sent to my Big Sister Cat in Hawaii.  It was made by the people at Secret Dragon Collectibles.  I chose this one because Big Sister Cat really likes blue.

 Big Sister Cat called me and told me that she really loved it!

Sephira (the dragon's name) is so beautiful and looks so amazing hung up in a window or by a light source. She is completely crafted out of beads and wire, the wings are made out of wired ribbon.  Every dragon they make is unique and each is given a name by it's maker, or you can have a dragon made to your specifications and name it yourself!  The dragons each hold a piece of treasure, you get to choose the color and shape. They come with medical insurance too (at no extra cost), so if somehow it breaks, the creators will fix it for you!  How great is that?  Did I mention that the dragons come it two different sizes (Sephira is one of the smaller ones).  Secret Dragon Collectibles even make some two-headed and three-headed dragons,  dragonflies, and mermaids!

 I think these Dragons are incredible and I hope someday to buy one for myself!

SCORE! AT THE CROSSROADS DOLL & TEDDY BEAR SHOW!

Yesterday morning Jennifer of Plushpussycat, and I (Momma Cat) went to the Crossroads Doll & Teddy Bear Show over at the National Guard Armory.  We got there early, so we had a little easier time looking around before it got crowded.

We both have such different interests, we kind of split up for a while and went exploring on our own.  When I found something wonderful I would ask her opinion, and vice-versa.  Also, we each kept an eye out for treasures that the other one mind be interested in.  It worked out great! We each found several things we liked, and we didn't spend a lot of money!  

Let me just say that I don't ever have any trouble finding things I like or want to have at the doll show.  It's quite the opposite!  My trouble is finding things that are within my budget, and sticking to a budget!

Anyway, the first thing I found that I purchased was this cute little baby doll.

She's made of hard plastic and has her original clothes.  Her arms and legs move, but her head doesn't.  Her tag said she was an Irwin Baby.  I haven't done any research yet, so I don't know what era she's from or anything.  I just know that she's cute, and she only cost me $4.95!  I think she's adorable.  She's also tiny, so I won't have any trouble finding a place for her.  

My next find was this adorable jointed doll.  

J doll, she has joints everywhere and is infinitely poseable! She just needs some duds!

She's a J doll.  Again, I haven't researched her.  But she's  a sweet looking doll and I really like her potential.  She has joints everywhere, so she be posed any way I want.

She came with  a bag of clothing, which I don't particularly like, but I can create new clothing for her and dress her any way I want, so that's a good thing.  She doesn't have any shoes either, but since I only paid $10. for her, I think I got a great bargain.  

I can't wait to dress her!

Last but not least, this adorable Tiny Betsy McCall doll, made by the Robert Tonner doll company.

Betsy McCall dolls have always been a favorite of mine.  But they haven't been made since the 1960's.  My childhood dolls were given away a long time ago, probably after I stopped playing with them.  I remember having a blond doll (which was probably originally my sister's), and a brunette doll, and a little round pink hatbox shaped trunk with a ton of clothing!  

Anyway, I always look for them at the doll shows, but the old ones are too expensive for my pocketbook.  So yesterday I saw this little cutie standing all by herself and she's wearing a Halloween outfit, which I thought was so sweet (Baby Cat will covet this one!).  It turns out that the owner's friend made the clothes for this doll.  So, I added this little darling the my collection, and I only paid $15. for her!  

I also bought an amazing birthday present for my Big Sister Cat there. No, it's not a doll! But, I can't talk about it or show you any photo's until after I've sent it to her.  But keep tuned in and you'll see it in a later post!
